HypeSound, a start-up that employs an advanced acoustic modulation system to improve the efficiency of bioproduction, announces that it has closed a EUR 1.2 million pre-seed round.
The new capital will enable HypeSound to accelerate the opening of a new laboratory in Perugia and enhance the development of its patented So’Sweep technology.
The focus will be on the optimisation of industrial bioproduction and the validation of new categories of microorganisms, expanding the main focus on microalgae to also include yeasts and bacteria. Among the objectives is also the growth of an increasingly structured team, with the search for research and development managers and senior scientists, a junior biotechnologist, a junior mechanical engineer and an admin specialist.
The pre-seed funding round that will support the startup’s evolution is led by Eatable Adventures and supported by other strategic investors, including CDP Venture Capital, Nextup, Vento Ventures, Athena FH and Ulixes Capital.
Founded in 2019 and recently awarded the European Innovation Council’s (EIC) Seal of Excellence for the quality of its project proposal, HypeSound was created to transform bioproduction with sound stimulation. The startup also successfully passed the first batch of FoodSeed, the foodtech accelerator of the CDP Venture Capital National Network.
It all started with a simple but revolutionary intuition: sound can amplify and accelerate biological processes where light meets its limits. The So’Sweep technology developed by the start-up, based on low-frequency sound waves, thus offers a scalable and sustainable method to enhance microbial growth, improving the efficiency of industrial bioproduction. A plug-and-play technology that accelerates microbial growth by 3X, So’Sweep not only reduces costs by 50% but also improves purity by up to 95% through the use of low-frequency sound waves.
‘Our mission is to combine the intelligence of nature with technological innovation,’ says CEO Matteo Crucito of HypeSound (pictured with the team) in a note. ‘By integrating sound into biological processes, we can make bioproduction more efficient, sustainable and scalable, while reducing resource consumption. This round will enable us to further strengthen our product, expand our team to improve research and development, and accelerate our expansion in key markets. The goal is to make bioproduction more sustainable and efficient, and this investment brings us even closer to this vision.”
Indeed, the current industrial fermentation infrastructure struggles to meet the growing global demand, with only 0.1 billion litres produced compared to the projected 10 billion by 2030. HypeSound tackles this challenge with an innovative approach: integrating sound waves into bioprocesses enables increased yields, improved purity and reduced production costs.
With the new funding round, HypeSound is poised to consolidate its presence in the global biotech/agrotech sector, offering companies a plug & play, sustainable and data-driven system to optimise production processes.
“We are proud to support a company like HypeSound, which, thanks to its patented technology, aims to significantly optimise the efficiency of industrial bioproduction processes,” says Stefano Molino, head of the Accelerators Fund of CDP Venture Capital. “HypeSound is a virtuous example of how our acceleration programmes enable emerging technological innovations to be transformed into successful entrepreneurial realities, thanks also to the valuable contribution of our partners.
