Blubrake, a company that develops Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) for e-bikes and light electric vehicles, announces that it has completed a €12 million capital increase to accelerate its growth. The round was led by Algebris Climatech, the first venture capital strategy of Algebris Investments, Fundracer, an investment fund focused on micro-mobility, and Tri-Star group, an industrial company active in automotive components that will support the industrialisation of Blubrake’s product. Blubrake was supported by Growth Capital as financial advisor to the transaction.
Founded in 2015, Blubrake launched its ABS technology in 2018; the product is reaching mass adoption in the pedal-assist bike and light electric vehicle segments. The new Gen 3 ABS will be competitively priced and will enable leading bicycle brands (OEMs) to enhance braking, improve safety and differentiate their products in an increasingly competitive market.
“We are thrilled to welcome Algebris, Fundracer BV and Tri-Star as investors in this new and exciting chapter of Blubrake,” said Fabio Todeschini, founder of Blubrake, in a note. “We believe ABS will soon be a standard in all new electric bikes and this investment confirms our vision and growth potential.
As the market adoption of e-bikes accelerates, the integration of advanced safety technologies is essential to meet customer demand. ABS is already a standard for motorbikes and cars, and e-bikes must follow suit to offer superior performance and reliability to daily commuters, logistics companies and sports enthusiasts.
‘The market is ready for the mass adoption of Blubrake ABS,’ says René Wiertz, founder of Fundracer – We at Fundracer are focused on making cycling safer and Blubrake delivers on this promise. We will leverage our experience in the industry to support its global growth’.
Alessandro Santo, managing partner of Algebris Climatech, adds: ‘Blubrake’s profound technological innovation aligns perfectly with our mission to support companies that can revolutionise the world with a significant contribution to the sustainability of the planet. The mobility of users and companies is becoming more sustainable with the proliferation of electric vehicles, the adoption of ABS increases the safety of these vehicles and helps to support this trend. Algebris Climatech intends to establish itself as a venture capital platform with a strong international footprint and which adopts strongly founder-friendly logics’.
“Blubrake’s distinctive technology and the founder’s strong entrepreneurial vision stand out in the industry,” says Marco Meoni, vice-president of Growth Capital. “We are confident that the company will play a key role in setting new safety standards in the e-bike market.
